Thunks on Death

Questions we put together with Winston's Wish to get children and young people talking about loss and bereavement

A few years ago we worked with one of the UK's leading child bereavement charities, Winston's Wish, to put together a resource to help schools open up important conversations about death, dying, grief and moving on.

Using the Thunks approach developed by Ian Gilbert – that is to say philosophical questions where there are no right or wrong answers – we drew up 20 questions designed to incite conversation, debate and thinking.

From Can you choose not to be sad? and Can you love someone you can’t see? to Do you die when the last person who remembers you dies? and Is it an act of love to let someone you love die before you?, the questions are designed to provoke new insights into life, death, living and love.

You can download a free set of Thunks on Death here and, for more of our articles and videos on helping children deal with bereavement, check out the resources we have here.

And, of course, there is also our Independent Thinking Press book, Independent Thinking on Loss full of personal insights into how schools can help when the awful, inevitable happens. [ITL]
