Tim has the knack of challenging you to be better than you were before but without you really noticing. Through his disarming manner, his casual and entertaining style and his inarguable logic, he helps all those he works with - young and old - revaluate what they do, why they do it and whether they should be doing something else entirely.
Many of our schools have had Tim back year after year to work with their students on issues including learning to learn, VIth form transition, motivation, confidence and communication and world of work skills – ideas captured in his first book jointly authored with Associate David Hodgson and entitled The Brain Box. He is also a dab hand at encouraging all teachers from primary to FE level to step out of their comfort zone, take a few risks and dare to make their lessons more engaging, active, relevant and effective.

"I was lucky enough to attend your revision workshop at Sheldon School on 10th October. Before the evening I had also been fairly rigorously briefed by my Year 11 son who was drip feeding me what he had taken away from the student briefing earlier in the day. The amount of information I was getting from my son was a sign of big impact. You have literally revolutionised our days. My son’s preferred method of revision has been osmosis, with sporadic bursts of “revision”. This method has served him fairly well with good enough results and the only drawback being snapped at by me at least 5 days out of 7 that yes he does have homework - SELF IMPOSED REVISION (capitals denote increasingly high pitched anxiety). Since your workshop we are singing from the same hymn sheet. Smart revision is not overwhelming and he knows he’s going to have to do it so the complaining is decreasing and effective work rate increasing. One hour with you has given both of us the skills to make revision as painless and effective as it can possibly be, and the accepted attitude that hard work equals the best results."

"We wanted to motivate, inspire and give practical tips to support this year group in their up and coming GCSE exams. Boy did he deliver!! He started like a train with quirky anecdotal tales that captivated the groups he had and finished with the message it's never too late to chase your dreams. Throughout the whole session Tim's skills to read his audience enabled him to personalise where he took his presentation. Tim made the students actively think about life where they wanted to go. He inspired the students with some hard hitting facts about what the students were going through and what lied ahead. Tim then went through a vast array of practical skills that the students could use to help them remember important information again all backed up with the science behind these. For many schools, getting parents to the school for an event is something that is only beaten in difficulty by getting the right parents to school for an event. That said, the parents who do come to our Learning and Motivation for Parents Events always head home buzzing with ideas that are not only helpful in dealing with their children but also very relevant for their own careers and personal development.
Being a governor is an incredibly important task these days so we are delighted when we are asked to support them in their work in all sorts of schools around the country. Apart from ensuring the event is an entertaining and enjoyable one for all, especialy as it is so often on a rainy Saturday, we make sure our input is informative, relevant, up to date and guarantees all governors go back into their schools knowing what to look for, what to do and the rights sorts of questions to ask.
