Although it was Abraham Lincoln who said that ‘The dogmas of the quiet past are inadequate to the stormy present’ Lisa is happy to take that as one of hers. With an English and Literacy background stretching from Classroom Assistant to Teaching and Learning Leader, Lisa is on a mission to help schools break away from how they’ve traditionally arranged things and embrace a whole new way of looking at the curriculum.
Best embodied in Manglish, her unique approach to combining whole-school literacy and numeracy, Lisa’s work shows how truly creative schools make learning more real and relevant. In doing so, all children benefit, regardless of background and academic ability.
A classroom practitioner first and foremost, Lisa is making a name for herself, sharing her work on creativity, engagement, teaching and learning, curriculum design, technology and showing how schools can, to go back to Lincoln, ‘disenthrall’ themselves from the past.

Feedback from recent events include:
"I would like to thank you for such an informative and thought-provoking CPD session delivered at the College’s annual teaching and learning conference. Your research, depth of understanding and ability to present in such an engaging way produced one of our most memorable CPD events and gave a great boost to our teaching staff."
"I am very pleased to write on behalf of Lisa Ashes, who participated in Wellington College’s Festival of Education in Shanghai in 2015. Lisa delivered two talks (about the significance of communication to learners in all subject disciplines and the importance of learning beyond the limitations of the examination room), both of which were much admired. Not only were her subjects engaging and entertaining, but she delivered them with wit and energy. The audiences at this international school were very complementary about her contributions, and I was especially delighted with the way in which she threw herself into the festival and became an integral part of its success. I can recommend her wholeheartedly and absolutely without reservation."
"Thanks again for your keynote yesterday, so much positive feedback, people really enjoyed it and it made for some great discussions for the rest of the day. Everyone got it, could articulate what it meant to them and there’s a real feeling of buying into growth mindset as a college now. You were uplifting, knowledgeable and exactly what we needed to inspire!"
"We really enjoyed the session and the students gained immensely. Lisa was a superb leader and really engaged the students."
"You've changed how I teach forever."
With Lisa Jane Ashes. Every school should be considering improving links between these two core subject areas; this Event shows you how.
For many schools, getting parents to the school for an event is something that is only beaten in difficulty by getting the right parents to school for an event. That said, the parents who do come to our Learning and Motivation for Parents Events always head home buzzing with ideas that are not only helpful in dealing with their children but also very relevant for their own careers and personal development.
