Lessons from The Working Class
Ian Gilbert and Mikey Markham
Ideas and insights from our latest best-selling book, The Working Class, to support schools working with children from challenging socio-economic backgrounds.
Takeaways from the day will include:
- How have we ended up in this position?
- What are the ten new narratives that will help make a difference?
- How can we start to think differently about working with young people from poorer backgrounds?
- What's it like to be on the receiving end of an education that just doesn't work for 'kids from round here'?
- What can schools do to close the education achievement gap without just focusing on the gap?
The exact programme, timings and format of the day will be planned with the school or schools involved*.
Choose the Associates and the topics you want. If there is any topic or combination not on the list, let us know and we'll do our best to accommodate your exact wishes.
You choose the location. It might be that you are willing to host the event or that you just want it in your area. If the latter, let us know roughly how far you would be prepared to travel to attend and we'll do our best to track down a suitable venue within that radius once we have the required number of delegates to make it work (see below).
Let us know a specific month or even give us a number of possible days that suits you best. We'll check to make sure the Associates you want are available and if so, they'll hold that date.
We will use our database to help promote the event both nationally and also in your local area. We ask that you use your networks locally to do your bit to raise awareness of the event too.
Because of the unique way Independent Thinking operates, we only need ten delegates for the event to become viable. When we hit the magic number we then work with you to finalise the venue - either your school or somewhere within your radius (see above).
Places on the day will be just £220 plus VAT per place and that includes refreshments. We will handle all the bookings and the admin and the Associates will host the day too.
Is that it?
Pretty much. It's a new way of making sure you get the conferences you want, where you want them, when you want them without all the travelling, fuss and getting up super early.
