10:10 - 10:25: Spring Hill’s curriculum journey - Spring Hill staff

10:25 - 10:45: The Parent Power Initiative - Simon Tonge and Helen Jones: Deputy Head, Spring Hill Community Primary School

10:45 - 11:15: Break

11:15 - 12:45: Dr Debra Kidd - A Curriculum of Hope: As rich in humanity as in knowledge

We are all challenged to make sure that we have a curriculum that is appropriate for our schools, our young people and our communities, but how do we do that? How do we deliver the knowledge and all the required content and still address the need to develop citizenship, compassion, values and all the other requirements and ambitions that we have? That is what this session will wrestle with.

12:45 - 13:30: Lunch

13:30 - 15:00: Hywel Roberts - The Warm Curriculum

'Travelling teacher' Hywel will explore how the delivery of curriculum content - the breathing of life into something that is essentially a cold document - requires agility and flexibility and a whole range of key teacher skills. Using his wonderful flair for telling stories, Hywel will signpost how a pedagogy of poverty, intellectual investment, connectedness and optimism serve as ingredients for memorable learning and, dare we say it, fun.

15:00 - 15:45: Jonathan Lear - Concept-based Learning: Developing a culture of craftsmanship

In this session Jonathan will explore the building blocks of innovative curriculum design, from the rigorous sequencing of knowledge to the development of a concept-based learning approach rich in authentic experiences. Drawing on his work as an inner-city primary school teacher and deputy, Jonathan will examine how to create the conditions needed for children to grow into empowered, knowledgeable and creative thinkers who are driven by insatiable curiosity.

15:45: Conference close - Helen Jones
