D George

If there is one man who has done the most to raise the profile of gifted and talented children in the UK and around the world then it is Dr David George.

And Independent Thinking is delighted that he has chosen to become one of our Associates.

The whole G&T issue, when done properly, is not about elitism or favouritism but about the finding the talents and gifts that all children may have and working to bring that special quality out of the child. As a world-renowned speaker, academic and the writer of many books on the subject, David has been at the forefront of helping schools do the G&T thing right and do it well.

But don't take our word for it! This is what one delegate felt after hearing David speak at a recent conference he delivered for Independent Thinking:

I felt I had to contact you to thank you so much for your inspirational presentation yesterday at the Spring Conference. I am sure I will remember it for the rest of my life. If only there were more people as passionate as you are about the development and nurturing of our children, I am sure there would be less conflict in the world and all achievements would be recognised no matter how small... You must inspire everyone you speak to and you certainly inspired me and I wanted you to know that.

Apart from a career as a teacher with a nine-year stint in Liverpool, David was Associate Director of what is now the University of Northampton and is the Founder President of the National Association for Able Children in Education. His impressive career has seen him engaged as a consultant to the British Council and UNESCO, he is the Chairman of Managers at St Andrew's Psychiatric Hospital in Northamptonshire, an Honorary Commander of  RAF Croughton (USAF) in recognition if his community services work as well as an executive committee member of The World Council of Gifted and Talented Children.

As a claim to fame he calls on the time in May 1954 when he was a county and RAF runner competing at the Iffley Road Track in Oxford one afternoon where a mile race was taking place that evening which was won by a Mr R Bannister in 3 minutes, 59.4 seconds.

Grounded in common sense and wisdom borne from years of experience, David’s keynotes, conference workshops and INSET days have been in demand from all sorts of schools in many, many countries. In a world of hype and fluff, his approaches and recommendations are straightforward and simple yet have a profound effect on young people’s lives. He draws from neuroscience, philosophy, multiple intelligence theory, thinking skills, learning styles and preferences, emotional intelligence and self-esteem strategies to offer something very powerful for all those who work with him.

Feedback from teachers who have benefitted from David’s input include:

  • A brilliant and totally fulfilling experience
  • A truly inspirational speaker
  • Absolutely what I needed – my mind was racing with ideas
  • Very practical but also strongly backed by philosophy and ideas
  • David should be available on prescription
  • David is a national treasure

So, why not book David for an Event with your staff, students, parents or governors (David delivers Events for early years, primary, secondary and further education).
