Just what does the learning brain need and what can you do to help? What is going on between their ears when the learning doesn't seem to happen? What is the truth about emotional intelligence, self-esteem and learning? What is the neuroscience of underachievement? Is Ritalin the answer? Or simply better educated parents?
Dr Andrew Curran is a practising paediatric neurologist in Liverpool who is also committed to using his extraordinary knowledge of the workings of the human brain to make a difference in the educational experience of all young people.
He's also involved with Manchester University's Department of Education in developing research ideas looking at the use of emotional literacy in our classrooms. This is groundbreaking work and something Andrew draws on in his work with schools.
He has also recently been asked to contribute regular articles to the Times Educational Supplement on children's development, learning and the brain.

Andrew will work with you to help answer many of the questions teachers have but don't know who to ask - questions about the nature of learning, special needs from the neurological point of view, the neuroscience of behaviour and much more - a Q & A session with him is something to behold!
On top of that, Andrew is an electrifying, controversial, challenging and very entertaining speaker.

- We had Andrew Curran for an inset the other month he was awesome, v interesting guy who totally knew what he was talking about, very informative, funny and I learnt loads from him :-)
- The information given was stimulating and thought provoking. I love that it gave me some 'scientific' backing to many of the things I have held closely and felt passionate about when teaching children and adults alike
- Andrew Curran made sense of complex science and instintive emotional stuff
- Thank you for your AWESOME contribution to our conference which was extremely well received
- Andrew Curran was brilliant both in terms of content and delivery - what an excellent role model for teachers!
- It was a real privilige to be informed and stimulated by him and to have beliefs and practice reinforced
- Inspirational breath of fresh air! Not the same old stuff!
- As a "bottom end" teacher i.e. Reception and KS1 I feel we are looked on as less "intelligent" than KS 2, 3 or 4 teachers. Maybe because we only deal with small numbers and easy words? You have affirmed that what we do at "the bottom end" in nurturing, caring and social and emotional development is worthwhile. You have inspired me to try different ideas, new possibilities for the future and be more confident in my own ideas and ability. Thank you for bringing us your vision and energy today
