Zero Tolerance!
This was a letter we were forced to send out recently. A client approached an Associate to re-book him but asked him to deal with her directly and bypass Independent Thinking:
21st March 2006
Dear ?
Thanks you for engaging the services of Independent Thinking recently and I am pleased that the session went well.
However, I am writing to say that, as a company, we will not be working with you again due to the approach you made to one of our Associates.
We make our living by matching up great speakers with schools that are looking for what our Associates have to offer and we encourage both parties to communicate at an early stage to ensure everyone is happy with the relationship. What we don’t expect is that the potential client then approaches the Associate and asks them to work with them directly thereby cutting Independent Thinking out of the arrangement and depriving us of our livelihood.
Not only is this unethical and places the Associate in a very awkward position, it is tantamount to stealing and goes against every principle of transparency and fairness that my company is built on.
We have proven that we are more than happy to negotiate with you over money and that we offer a quality service. Why you should think that you can do better than that and save yourself money by taking it from the very company that is helping you out is for your own conscience to consider.
I’m sure, on reflection, you will understand that this is the only course of action open to me, as it would be any company whose business was being negatively affected by the actions of a customer.
Yours sincerely
Ian Gilbert Managing Director Independent Thinking Ltd
