The best definition of self esteem we've come across is one which has two parts - capable and loveable - and you've got to have both.
You know people who are capable but don't feel loveable and you will also no people who are the life and soul of everyone's party but would never dare stretch themselves for fear of being found out.
What are you doing in your school environment to make sure that you are developing these feelings of capability and loveability in all members of the community?
And two more (controversial) thoughts to consider:
1) You can't raise someone else's self esteem above your own
2) You can't raise someone else's self esteem
