Research shows that for some people complete silence is not the best environment for them to work effectively.

Other research is finding that different sorts of music at different times in different ways (and not all the time but some of the time) can have a positive effect on learning, memory and motivation.

The true accelerated learning practitioners argue that it must be Baroque music (e.g. Bach), others argue that it must be Mozart (click here for a fascinating book on this so-called Mozart Effect) and teachers like Independent Thinking Associate Nina Jackson have shown that there are many different sorts of music that can play a part in a learning classroom (click here for The Big Book of Independent Thinking with a chapter all about Nina's pioneering work in her secondary school in Wales).
