Coming soon - the Big i Foundation
Special projects; access to Independent Thinking resources for schools that need them but can't afford them; new collaborations; action research and much more...
Sometimes it's the schools, organisations and people who would benefit most from the important work we do who can afford it least.
That was the thinking behind establishing The Big i Foundation- a unique 'charitable' arm of Independent Thinking that will help us work with a wider audience, establish new collaborations, set up and run some powerful one-off projects, develop new ideas to benefit young people and seed fund classroom-based action research by teachers to challenge some of the preconceptions that we think are holding back many young people in schools today.
In the words of our Aims, the Big i Foundation is there:
1 to advance the education of the public, pupils, students teachers, lecturers, governors, leaders and managers in schools and other educational establishments:
1.1 through the overall personal development of those persons participating by maximising their potential, intelligence and achievements by means of motivation, curiosity, creativity, thinking, learning, recreational activities, sport and the arts enabling them to reflect and form their own philosophy of life;
1.2 by providing or assisting in providing lectures, publishing educational materials, reports, hands on training, expeditions, initiatives, new technologies, innovations and special projects.
1.3 by providing or facilitating and publishing research to advance education
2 such other charitable purposes or objects and in such manner as the trustees shall in their uncontrolled discretion think fit.
Part of the funding for the foundation will come from sales of The Big Book of Independent Thinking and from special Events, such as The Big Day of Independent Thinking. We will also give a percentage of profits to the foundation too.
We have also teamed up with a new Associate - Peter Butcher - who will be advising on the running of the foundation and working to help us find funding for our projects and ideas.
We are looking at an autumn 2007 launch but, in the meantime, if you think you have an idea for us to consider - a group of at-risk students who need help, a programme to get more girls into HE, a classroom-based project to improve motivation of a certain group of students... - then drop us a line at enquiries@bigitrust.org.
