The Big Book of Independent Thinking

At the risk of being sizeist, the only complaint I have about this book is that I wanted it to be smaller and thicker - I know, I know, it's meant to be a 'Big Book' - but I have a smallish handbag and I wanted to be able to have a furtive and reassuring quick fix whenever a teaching low moment struck.  Mary Poppins was clearly a much more independent thinker than I when it came to handbag selection.

I won't pick a favourite chapter but my sixth formers have already had a totally different start to a new academic year thanks to Matt Gray, and Guy Shearer has challenged a retreat from the potential abyss of 'e-chalk' euphoria that was about to result from the arrival of 'my' new class projector. (Yes, I now realise it's the students' projector).

INSET rarely arrives at the right time/topic/mindset for this particular whinging, old teacher, so this book is perfect; challenging and practical ideas on tap.
