Colour Me Clever I

Why colour is a vital tool for learning

Research shows that we have a better memory for colour than we do for words.

So... how many different coloured pens do you use on your whiteboard?

Do you use different coloured paper to highlight different aspects of a particular topic?

Do you encourage your students to use different coloured pens for specific reasons to help them remember what they've recorded?

I used colour in teaching grammar in the U.S.A. and called it colour coded grammar. It worked amazingly well and I had kids tell me that when they were reading they could see the pink adjectives and green verbs glowing off the black and white page. More emphasis in the States but works well in the UK for grammar or sentence parts also.

Ian, thanks for the great INSET on Monday. I'm trying thunking tomorrow for my first classes.
